Guide to start folding with young children.
There are tons of resources out there for older children, but not much for little pre-schoolers to start folding with. I have compiled something simple and fun so that they can make a start without getting overwhelmed. Little children shouldn't get the impression that origami is too hard and is only for bigger children.
One thing with younger children is that they don’t mind repetition, so I’ve collected a selection of a few basics and variations, so a child can repeat the familiar steps that they have already tried.

Easy TUlipsEASY / Triangle FoldA great starting origami with only a few steps.
Starting with something simple like a tulip is a great confidence builder. This origami only requires three steps and it is quite lenient on how children fold. So that means even if the corners aren’t quite pointy and the folds are a little off it will still look like a beautiful tulip. ORIGAMI CUPEASY / Triangle FoldThe origami cup is one of the most recognisable origami. Don’t let looks deceive you, it's not a complicated origami at all. By the end children can put their nick-nacks in it when they are done.
Yes they do hold water like a cup but there are a couple more activities you can do with an Origami Cup. |
